The bit "About the Role"

Reporting to the Commercial Finance Manager, this role will sit within an existing team of three finance business partners. You will develop a good understanding of the business and its reporting and management information requirements in order to effectively deliver insight, add value and influence business decisions. The right candidate will have the opportunity to shape this role, and to grow and develop whilst supporting changing business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building strong relationships and business partnering with senior managers and their teams, providing financial insight to support their commercial decision making
  • Producing high standard store analysis including daily/weekly trading performance, trends and KPI reports
  • Involvement in month end activity including the preparation of journals, variance analysis and reconciliations
  • Key role in supporting the retail operations budgeting and forecasting process
  • Assisting with the development of new MI reporting, systems and processes
  • Providing ad-hoc analysis and reporting to the business including impact of promotions and events
  • Reviewing competitor analysis and retail trends
  • Any other tasks deemed necessary as the role and business develops.

Requirements

You will be personable and a confident communicator who possesses first class analytical skills. A part qualified CIMA/ACCA, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

Essential:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to engage and build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business
  • Ability to interpret numbers into meaningful MI and communicate this succinctly
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables and Lookups a minimum requirement) with experience of streamlining and automating manual excel documents.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, able to work quickly and accurately under time pressure
  • Commercially astute with an interest in understanding the key levers in the business
  • Confidence to initiate process improvements and the tenacity to see them through to completion
  • Strong organisational skills, flexible and able to adapt quickly to deliver a fast turnaround on ad-hoc tasks
  • Self-motivated and self-sufficient, using initiative to get stuck in and resolve queries
  • Naturally inquisitive and not shy to question processes and procedures

Desirable:

  • Experience in a retail environment is desirable though not essential
  • Exposure to MI tools such as Cognos or TM1
