Our Discover Programme

Our Discover Programme is our induction and training programme for everyone who joins us here at The Works, and it’s also for anyone moving roles within the business.

On the programme, you’ll pick up everything you need to know about working with us, including your training plan, sign off, evaluation, and next steps - all in one blended learning package. It covers everything from legal and compliance training through to merchandising shelves, and includes a wide range of information, directions and practical activities that can help you become as productive as possible - as quickly as possible. 

And once you’ve completed it, you’ll know exactly what’s expected of you in your role and you’ll be confident and capable of delivering just that.

Meeting the Teams

If you join us as a Store Manager, we’ll invite you to our Store Support Centre Induction at Sutton Coldfield to meet and greet some of the key people from our offices. It’s an all-expenses-paid trip over two days and includes a tour of the office itself, a chance to see our Distribution Centre in action, opportunities to meet our CEO and Directors, and lots of free time that you can spend with the people who work in the departments you’ll interact with most.

You’ll get to ask any burning questions you have, and we’ll also introduce you to other Store Managers who’ll have joined us at a similar time to you, and who’ll form part of your support network as you learn and grow within the business.

We run sessions every month, so you can expect an invite within 6 weeks or so - and we’re looking forward to meeting you already!

Our “I Can Be… Pathway”

Whatever your role, Our “I Can Be… Pathway” will be your first step on whichever retail career path you choose here at The Works. It will show you what you need to do to take that first step, how you need to do it, and more importantly what support we’ll give you to help you do it.

So, whether you’re a Store Manager looking to progress to an Area Manager through our Area Manager Designate Programme, or a Sales Assistant who wants to grow into a management role, we’ve got a pathway for you to follow. Not to mention some brilliant opportunities for progression at the end of it, too.

Our Area Manager Designate Programme

We’ve been running this programme for nearly 2 years now, and we’ve supported 5 Store Managers to become Area Managers in just the last 18 Months. The programme itself is a blend of a fully funded Level 5 Apprenticeship in Leadership, Mentoring, Coaching and the real life, practical experience you need to manage an area of up to 24 stores.

Get involved and you’ll cover holidays, manage underperforming stores, support new managers, and spend lots of time in our Store Support Centre. All to give you the knowledge, the expertise and the experience you need to manage an area.
